The City of Morristown is now accepting applications to fill the position of Buildings, Plumbing, Gas, and Mechanical Inspector. This position is classified at level 14 ($20.03 hour) on the City's salary schedule. Buildings, Plumbing, Gas, and Mechanical Inspector duties and responsibilities incl.
the following yet other duties may be assigned: Performs residential, commercial and industrial building, plumbing, gas, mechanical and related code inspections.
Reviews plans. Maintains appropriate records and files.
Prepares reports. Issues building, plumbing, gas, and mechanical permits.
Performs field inspections and re-inspections of residential, commercial, industrial and public facilities for compliance with building & life safety code compliance.
Receives complaints in regard to defective construction and handles enforcement problems.
Inspects existing buildings for hazardous conditions, structural failures or improper uses.
Where construction is not being made in compliance with regulations as to methods and/or materials, issues warnings & stop-work order if necessary.
Answers questions from private citizens, contractors & builders, checks plans to ensure compliance with codes.
Conducts zoning, nuisance and sign inspections.
Confers with contractors and owners on code-compliance matters.
Testifies in court on code violation cases.
Makes reports and keeps records regarding inspections.
Performs property maintenance inspections and issue notice of violations.
Reviews building plans & specifications for compliance with codes.
